Religious Leaders in Afghanistan Commit to Ending Early Forced Marriage
As a result of the extraordinary efforts by our child protection team in Afghanistan 400 community members gathered in Kabul for a very special ceremony. At the meeting, 37 religious and community leaders in confirmed that early forced marriage is against the principle of basic human rights by signing the resolution pictured below. This is a huge shift in attitudes in a country where a shocking 87 percent of women experience at least one form of physical, sexual or psychological violence or forced marriage, and 62 percent experienced multiple forms of violence. And it happened thanks to the support of donors like you.
